International Peace Day “Act Now for a Peaceful World”

The International Day of Peace, also known as World Peace Day, is observed globally every September 21st. It was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly to promote peace and non-violence across nations and communities.

In 2001, the UN unanimously voted to designate it as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence. Each year, the UN selects a theme to spotlight specific peace-related challenges. For 2025, the theme is “Act Now for a Peaceful World”, urging people everywhere to take concrete steps toward peace—from community volunteering, to combating misinformation and discrimination, and engaging in noncooperation with and resistance to authoritarianism.

We will center our UUFM Peace Pole in the sanctuary and rededicate ourselves during our worship service, with all others throughout the world who do the same, to act now for a peaceful world.
