“Knowledge is not merely knowing facts, but the humility to acknowledge the vastness of what we don’t yet understand.” ― Aloo Denish Obiero

I only gain focus when I begin by noticing how my attention is scattered.
I only deepen awareness when I begin by acknowledging what is unconscious in me.
I only grow kinder when I begin by noticing how unkind I have been.
I only extend compassion for this world when I begin by noticing its terrors and refusing to turn away.

Our genius and our gifts exist right alongside our shadows, and each new day is an opportunity to continue to meet those parts of us while making the intentional choice to shamelessly, even generously, greet them. Friendliness toward all of ourselves and the choice to remain humble allows us to show up in the world more fully and openly. Our spiritual practices remain essential and not only make it possible for us to continually show up in the ways we would like to but are directly connected to liberation from oppressive systems. Being realistic about our personal capacity is necessary.

It’s easy to forget some of these things when we are faced with so much opportunity for overwhelm. It’s a challenge to stay grounded through these times. I hope that while we are collectively facing an abundance of heavy news, locally and globally, that you find ways to move toward balance while tending to what deeply matters, knowing that there will always be more work to do and trusting that your trying is enough. You are worthy of your kindness.
