“When someone deeply listens to you
your bare feet are on the earth
and a beloved land that seemed distant
is now at home within you.”
-excerpt from the poem
“When Someone Deeply Listens to You” by John Fox

I shared this poem in service this past month during worship and have returned to it and shared it with friends multiple times since then because I find this practice underrated, underutilized, and profound in its impact. To be willing to slow down and form the habit of listening to really understand another person rather than jumping right to thoughts of how to respond gives us a much greater chance at creating peaceful, intimate bonds with one another.

May we reject urgency culture as a way to grow more closely to one another. Allow us to slow down enough to breathe and be and to truly listen. May we find forgiveness, grace, and even humor when we notice how quickly the mind prepares us to react. Let us always be curious, and may that curiosity give us an abundant sense of care and belonging.

There will be no Monday 11am yoga next week, due to the holiday. We will resume on Monday, June 1st, and Macey will return to worship next on Sunday, June 7th. Keep an eye out for upcoming updates to learn more on what is to come for summer activities.
