On this holiday week, as we wrap up the monthly theme of gratitude, I am sensing into the deep well of it I have for this congregation and our wider community. The more I grow, the more deeply I understand our interdependence and how a culture of nurturance directly correlates to our capacity for transformation. The way we show up for the collective has a profound impact on the way we return to ourselves, and vice versa. May that be remembered, especially on our most trying days. I pray that you and all of your relations find yourself happy, well, at ease, and full of wonder this season and always.
Brokenness perceived
is an opportunity
to breathe and see,
to tend and befriend.
Comfort may be found
in obedience, in order.
Yet, loyalty to spirit
sparks courage,
an act of bravery
to listen there,
amongst the noise.
A radical act,
to allow it to shape you.
Generational healing
requires roots,
a quiet warmth,
a wholehearted depth,
a grounded tenderness.
The reward is felt
in the lifting
of a collective weight.
Those before us feel it, too.
They hear our voices,
and in their stillness
their own echo through us.
Let them remind you –
what resilience, what miracles,
what pain, what beauty
it took to birth thousands,
each necessary for you to arrive.
Sense their labor.
Hear their wails.
Be with them.
Breathe and push
and labor and pray
and act for the future ones,
their sovereignty
their belonging here,
to and with our beloved Earth,
our original mother.
Not long from now,
you and I are dust,
but our perspectives,
our hopes,
our legacies –
they are not measured
by clocks.
Be a timeless, living prayer for us all.
