“The most meaningful futures rarely arrive because we forced them into existence. They emerge because we noticed something true and stayed with it. A question that would not let us go. A grief that clarified what mattered. A longing that persisted beneath distraction. A quiet conviction that shaped our choices over time… The invitation is not to perfect your plans, but to tend your attention; not to demand transformation, but to notice what is already changing; not to rush toward the future, but to stand here long enough to hear what it is asking of you.” -Cameron Trimble

This week, I have been thinking about how interconnected our senses are – how our grief and our imagination, our anxieties and our hopes, our joys and our sorrows are directly linked. When we refuse to acknowledge, name, or express but instead numb, suppress, distract from, and dismiss one side, the other seems to wane alongside it. However, the more present we can be with it, especially when we practice the vulnerability of expressed grief and create from our imagination with others, we all benefit!

I find that this is why intentional communities and our Unitarian Universalist Fellowship space have been so enriching in my life. Being a part of the staff team at UUFM over the past six and a half years and most recently taking on a speaking role in worship services has helped me to overcome some fears, find my voice, and expand my range of expression. I’d never known an abundantly supportive environment quite like ours, in which I didn’t feel I had to perform or perfect a craft but instead was invited to deepen into a more authentic way of showing up. My tender-heartedness was honored from the very beginning.

I pray that we all know meaningful futures – futures that are radically welcoming, inclusive, nurturing, kind, and just. May we greet the world, as well as our inner world, with friendliness, curiosity and courage, honoring each part as a part of the process. Allow us to trust in our inherent worth and belonging and make us good relatives.
