Happy Strawberry Moon and early Summer Solstice to you all!
I just began reading The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer over the last couple of days, and I am finding it to be a remarkably touching text for how short of a read it is. (Thank you to North Mankato Taylor Library for their wonderful selection of new books!) So far, one of my favorite quotes is this:
“If the Sun is the source of flow in the economy of nature, what is the “Sun” of a human gift economy, the source that constantly replenishes the flow of gifts? Maybe it is love.”
May we remember, as we are faced with a multitude of challenges that come with existing in a capitalist, colonialist culture, including the changes that our church is facing, that love and generosity being at the center of our faith tradition will keep us connected, no matter what shape that care and giving takes. Rather than succumbing to a sense of scarcity, division, and fear, we are invited to cultivate a sense of abundance through community and gratitude. Let us consider our gifts in the context of our current reality and capacity, while holding our ideals and our visions as inspiration that fuels and encourages us.
May it be so.
