UUFM Book Discussion Group

The non-fiction selection for the September book discussion at the UUFM is John Michael Greer’s Decline and Fall: The End of Empire and the Future of Democracy in 21st Century America

The UUFM Book Group will discuss this book on Thursday evening, September 19:

6:30 – 6:50 PM: Meet and Greet
7:00 – 7:10 PM: Recommendations and voting for our next fiction book for November 21.
7:10 – 8:30 PM: Book Discussion

Ted Downey highly recommended this book as a “must read”. Reviewers agree with Ted and state that anyone concerned about the state of the Union or who believes that the time has come to reinvent the American Dream would benefit from reading this book. Greer succinctly explains why the brittle American political and economic system is unprepared for a perfect storm which will impact America in the near future. There is much food for thought in this book, which brings together the realities of oil depletion and the other elements of the impending age of limits with the evidence that America's empire is in decline.

Here is a  handout of excerpts and possible discussion questions for this book.  The Word document prints at six pages (three duplex) with easy-to-read 12-point font Times New Roman in two columns. Didn’t have time to read the book or the entire book?  The five pages of excerpts provide a summary of the main ideas and would help you participate in the discussion.

Don’t forget to bring your FICTION recommendations for our next book!
I look forward to our sharing and discussion of this important book!

The UUFM Book Discussion Group meets bi-monthly at 6:30 P.M. for a meet and greet followed by a lively discussion of the book from 7:00P.M.-8:30 P.M. For further information about the group, please contact Karen Knox (kareneknox@gmail.com ) or Linda Good (linda.good@mnsu.edu).
