We invite newcomers, visitors, and members who share our mission to work with us on UUFM’s Pride Team!

WHO WE ARE:
Since the early 2000s, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mankato (UUFM) has made LGBTQIA+ rights one of its central issues. We were one of the first congregations to support same-sex marriage and perform wedding ceremonies for same-sex couples. We welcome people of all beliefs and backgrounds and draw on an inclusive spirituality.

Welcoming LGBTQ Banner

We are a Welcoming Congregation, recognized by the Unitarian Universalist Association since 2006.
This means we affirm and include people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer at every level of congregational life—in worship, in program, and in social occasions.

Our purpose is to support the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mankato (UUFM) as a spiritual community.  Click here to download a detailed description of the Pride Team.

WHAT WE ARE DOING AND PLANNING:

  • The Pride Team works every year to renew our recognition as a Welcoming Congregation.
  • This includes working with our minister to offer LGBTQIA+ related sermons and commemorations of such important days such as National Coming Out Day, LGBTQ+ History Month, Trans Day of Remembrance, and the National Day of Silence.
  • Mankato PrideFest Participation: Every year, UUFM helps to sponsor the Mankato Pride Festival, marches as a congregation, and hosts a table there. The Pride Team organizes this important effort.
  • The Pride Team shares information on LGBTQIA+ issues and events from the UUA, the region, and the community with our members on our website and in our Weekly Update.
  • We also coordinate with our Director of Children’s Faith Development to infuse LGBTQIA+ commitment into our CFD and Youth Activities.
  • In August of 2020 we completed the Five Practices of Welcome Renewal. Click the following link for the congratulations letter from the UUA, it is a list of all our accomplishments: Welcoming Congregation Letter.

OUR HISTORY:
Our dedication to Unitarian Universalist Principles has led our congregation in its Core Commitment of LGBTQA+ justice, of which we are very proud! Starting probably before 1990, but gaining momentum in the 90’s, we at the UUFM have grown, listened, educated ourselves, waved flags, and marched for LGBTQA+ rights.  Click here to read more about Pride’s Past at UUFM.
