A spiritual teacher once reminded me how important it is to slow down, to let one’s spirit (however you understand “spirit”) catch up with one’s body, to let one’s whole self fully arrive in the moment and just be. When I first began to engage in this practice, I was surprised at the feelings of grief that frequently showed up when I slowed down. Often, the grief was connected to transitions in my life, or endings, that I hadn’t fully acknowledged. No surprise, but it turns out that life is full of transitions, endings, and the accompanying grief. What I now recognize is that transitions and grief are a natural thread in the fabric of life; we all wear its cloth. Still, processing, naming, and recognizing these transitions and the grief that comes with them, can feel vulnerable and risky. What better place to slow down and explore this topic than a Unitarian Universalist fellowship? Rev. Justin Schroeder preaching.
