“The forest breathes. Listen. It answers…
If what a tree or a branch does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows
Where you are. You must let it find you.”
-David Wagoner
As I consider our October theme of Deeply Listening, my first thought was about the way we practice this in community with other people. However, another aspect of this practice is the way we tune into inner wisdom. Until one is actively choosing the call of their own path and vision, it seems to be that spirit has a way of providing the guidance needed to choose differently, given we are present enough to listen.
Much of what is not meant to be falls away, just like the turning of the season requires shedding, and we are invited to cultivate gratitude for the lightness and opportunity that follows perceived loss. When we take the time to allow for it, some of the richest lessons exist in that space of metaphorical composting, nourishing the soil of the soul with integral wisdom.
As the shifting seasons invite us to rest and turn deeply inward, help us to remember that this, too, is part of our flourishing. Real, sustainable growth often happens in less of a linear or efficient manner than our culture feels comfortable with. Our inner workings are not defined by our culture. However, that process of soul work may impact our culture in significant ways when it occurs collectively.
This month and always, may you stay true and authentic to you.
