February 12, 2025 Minister’s Message

Yesterday, the Unitarian Universalist Association joined more than two dozen other religious groups in a lawsuit to fight the current administration’s policy allowing ICE to enter houses of worship in immigration raids and other enforcement actions.

I am proud of our UUA for taking this action in partnership with others, living out our values and striving to protect vulnerable people.

Our faith calls us to live our values all the time, and especially when the powers that be are pushing values at odds with our own.

We are living in challenging times. What any one of us has capacity to do will vary from person to person and for any person across time. I have already heard from several of you who are feeling overwhelmed (and sometimes overcommitted) in the wake of all that has happened since the inauguration just a little over three weeks ago. I will say here what I have said to those individuals in our conversations: please take care of yourself. We are in this together for the long haul, and that means being sustainable.

I understand the urge to do everything you can; I am having to make careful decisions about how many things I can say yes to—including actions at our state capitol to influence our elected officials. There is at least one such event I could participate in almost every week—sometimes more than one—but I can’t go to everything.

If you need support, please reach out. And if you have some capacity to add to your activity list, consider joining the “Good Trouble” team that Diane Dobitz and I are creating to continue our pro-democracy work in the months and years ahead.

In gratitude,

Rev. Diana
