Tonight is the night we finally celebrate Rev. Diana’s poetry book release at UUFM! I am excited to provide refreshments (tea, hot chocolate, sweets) in the Fellowship Hall, in addition to writing and art-making materials and prompts.
I, too, have recently been writing some poetry, and given that a section of Rev. Diana’s poetry book is about self-love, I decided I would share one of my poems related to self-love as well. I wrote this poem following a dream that reminded me of the value of the love, vulnerability, and care that lives in us.
The grand entrance to
the life you seek—
it lies within the soft cavern of your chest.
Your love is more than a castle—
it’s a universe in you.
You shed guarded armor
to reveal warm skin,
healing in the act of feeling—
one breath, one step, one pause at a time.
The world will never offer
the peace you seek
until you accept where you are,
you stop running from yourself,
and the wild, full truth of you
begins to unfold.
In the flow,
the joy and the ache
coexist,
each one bending the air
into something new.
Difficulty, tension,
the spark of friction—
they stir the fire of potential
for the work you’ve yet to birth.
And though no one else may witness it,
your process,
each part of you—
the hidden, the tender,
the fractured and whole—
shines in your soft gaze.
You learn, in time,
to love it all.
Who are you becoming
when the only audience
is your own wide heart?
