Director of Children’s Faith Development (CFD) Description

 

This is a 12-month half-time salaried position reporting to the Minister.

Our Children’s Faith Development mission is to teach our children the values, heritage, and sources of Unitarian Universalism, as well as to help them articulate their personal beliefs. To fulfill its mission, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mankato seeks a Director of CFD, working cooperatively with our full-time settled Minister, to guide our faith development programs by planning and implementing this expansion goal. We are open to creative approaches and programming based on your experience and ideas. This is an exciting opportunity for you to develop a growing program with lots of freedom for innovation.

We seek applicants who are:

  • Unitarian Universalist (UU) with training in religious education programs and processes through congregational experience, Renaissance Modules, and/or seminary training.

OR

  • Educator with a professional degree in primary or secondary education, five years of experience and willingness to teach in a UU context with UU methods and materials.

OR

  • Child-care professional with demonstrated knowledge of child development, five years of experience and willingness to teach in a UU context with UU methods and materials.

In addition, we anticipate applicants with the following dispositions and skills:

  • Ability to lead and motivate others
  • Ability to be a team player
  • Self-directed and meets deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Computer skills, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, video conferencing, and social media

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Physical presence on Sunday mornings and on several other days per month (video conferencing is an option for some meetings)
  • Coordinate the Children’s Faith Development Team
  • Align Children’s Chapel with Adult Worship through Soul Matters Theme Ministry materials in coordination with the Minister https://www.soulmatterssharingcircle.com/
  • Develop Whole Congregation services in coordination with the Minister
  • Coordinate and support Sunday Morning Children’s Chapel Facilitators
  • Coordinate and support the Youth Group Facilitators
  • Secure training for and oversee facilitation of Our Whole Lives Lifespan Sexuality Education https://www.uua.org/re/owl
  • Hire, train, and supervise Nursery Attendants and Child-Care Providers

Hours, Compensation, and Benefits:

  • This is a half-time professional position, roughly 20 hours per week/5 units per week (1 unit = 4 hours), with the understanding that certain times of the year may require more or less time than that. The position begins on August 1, 2019 or at negotiated start date. Salary will be paid monthly.
  • In all cases, title and salary will be adjusted depending on level of education according to the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) Fair Compensation Guidelines (Geo Index 2, small congregation, prorated half-time). https://www.uua.org/sites/live-new.uua.org/files/salary_recs_19-20_geo2.pdf
