I am relieved and excited to be back at work after my recent bout of pneumonia! Thank you all for your kind messages, and for your patience and grace as I tended to my health. I’m easing back in by working remotely this week, but intend to lead worship in person on Sunday, and hope to see you there as we begin exploring our May theme of Imagination with a Star Wars themed multigenerational worship service!
I’ve been a Star Wars fan since childhood; the first movie came out when I was 6. Unlike many of my childhood favorites, Star Wars has held up (with a few notable exceptions) as a body of work (books, movies, games and more) with a lot of important messages for all of us about life, and especially about resistance and resilience in the face of incredible challenges. That’s a big part of why I still love all things Star Wars in my 50s. (The picture with this column is from the drone show at Star Wars Night at the Twins two summers ago; I’m lucky enough to have a group of family members and friends who join me in my favorite fandom.)
What stories and other art forms do you turn to for inspiration, comfort, or a spiritual “battery recharge”? How do you let your imagination nourish you in hard times?
I’d love to hear your answers!
In gratitude,
Rev. Diana
