CFD Director’s Message 1.17.24

“I am confused by people who say they love us but are never upset when we are treated unjustly. The two simply cannot co-exist. A love that’s aloof isn’t a love I have any use for. I need a love that is troubled by injustice.” – Austin Channing Brown

As we explore the theme of Liberating Love this month, I have been reflecting how some relationships seem caring but are complacent, whereas others might bring up some discomfort but prove to provide a growth edge. These are the ones that teach us to align with our values and recognize our blind spots. The older I grow, the more easily I differentiate between the two and value the latter.

A hope I have for the future is that teachings of compassionate communication and productive conflict become the norm. When we ease social anxiety with these and other tools, and become comfortable listening to and learning from differing perspectives, true peace, justice, humility, and Liberating Love flourish.

In addition to this month’s regular Sunday programming, consisting of Children’s Chapel and Nursery Care, below is our January schedule. If you or your family members plan to attend, it is helpful to receive RSVPs to get a sense of who we might anticipate welcoming:
