CFD Director’s Message 1.22.25

Slowly but surely, I have been making my way through Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book Braiding Sweetgrass, and this quote from it felt particularly relevant:

“Weep! Weep!” calls a toad from the water’s edge. And I do. If grief can be a doorway to love, then let us all weep for the world we are breaking apart so we can love it back to wholeness again.”

Our interconnected web of life reminds us not only to allow ourselves to tune into all of our senses, but also to practice presence, slow our pace, remember our cyclical nature, accept ourselves, and to see non-human life as sacred, essential, and worthy. We are reminded of humility in the sense that vast, collective efforts are the only way to achieve what we envision for the future.

Not one of us will save us, but all of us are invited to keep showing up, doing the work that our hearts call us to. May your heart guide you today and always, and may you continue tending to the embers of hope that lives there, even (or perhaps, especially) when it feels like a fire of passion has gone out.

Youth Group tonight is cancelled, due to a lack of RSVPs.

This Sunday, however, Deb and I look forward to hosting:
Intergenerational Art Journaling, Sunday, January 26th, 11:30am-1pm

I hope your week is off to a good start. I am looking forward to our next social justice book study and discussion! The book we are continuing to explore is Let This Radicalize You: Organizing and the Revolution of Reciprocal Care, written by Mariame Kaba and Kelly Hayes.

We will meet again in the UUFM Meeting Room next Wednesday, and then again, every other week through February. You’re welcome to come to some or all of the sessions. Snacks and beverages will be served – Please RSVP at the links below:

Keep an eye on next week’s update for February’s other offerings, such as an intergenerational hike, Love at the Center-themed family fun, another opportunity to art journal, and our next attempt at getting a group of youth together!
