CFD Director’s Message 4.20.22

Here is my update for this week.

It may not feel like spring, and many of us experience some disappointment with how cold, cloudy, and windy of an April we have been experiencing here in southern Minnesota, with just another week and a half to go until May!

I just returned from a trip up north that felt simultaneously restorative and exhausting, as I hiked and traveled through icy, snowy conditions at about 8 months pregnant. I had a moment that reminded me of our monthly theme right as we reached High Falls in Grand Portage State Park. I said to a couple of older folks that made it up right after I did, how it “sure does wake a person up” standing there in the wind, being both snowed on and misted from the falls. Had I not been prepared with comfortable layers, I would not have experienced joy, awe, and humor in that moment the way I did.

When I think of our continued awakening as a community, through challenging times, I think about what might be considered the metaphorical layers that we prepare ourselves with. For me, it is proximity to family, strong friendships, the comforts of home, reliable neighbors, and the self-care that helps me to give back, hoping that others find our relationships as reciprocal as I do. What are your “layers” of support? I truly hope there are many and the quality of them is felt.

…I am here for you, just an email or a phone call away. I am now currently holding office hours in-person at UUFM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11am-3pm. I will continue to do my best to serve as a resource to our community, through connecting you to one another and of course, directly. Being a light in the lives of others is as important as ever, and I hope you will stay connected.

Please consider joining our private Facebook group: UUFM Children’s Faith Development (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1404655806251029/). This group is intended for families and congregants who are involved in Children’s Faith Development. My approval of new members’ access to the information there is what makes the group a safe space for sharing. I will be sharing our weekly stories as Facebook videos on my personal page publicly and sharing them in the group, as well as short prayers and meditations.

Link to the stories: Our virtual Stories for All Ages are now available on the UUFM YouTube Channel. At least one new story will be available by Sunday, each week.
