“The Solstices teach us
that darkness comes,
that darkness goes.
The Solstices teach us
that light comes,
that light goes.
The Solstices teach us,
calmly, silently, to be
calm, silent. Learning.
The Solstices teach us
as we circle the sun
that everything flies.
The Solstices teach us
to remember the dark,
to remember the light,
to remember time.
The seasons. And love
as we circle the sun.”
– David Breeden Summer often feels like a quiet time at UUFM, with many congregants and their families taking time traveling, gardening, or perhaps just leisurely enjoying the warm, fresh air. Even while I experience physical solitude, however, I am reminded that this is the right time to prepare for the future – decluttering, organizing, learning, and connecting from afar, so that it is possible to start the coming church year strong.
In the meantime, the support of volunteers can still benefit and welcome families, returning and new, to our sanctuary. The expectation of this role has simplified and shifted a bit for summer. If you have interest in building relationships with families with children in the weeks and months to come, while at church for worship, please do reach out to me at cfddirector@uumankato.org to let me know. I’d also love to hear from you this summer about what visions or hopes you might have for the future. Thank you!
