“When we rush, we skim the surface, and fail to make real connections with the world or other people.” – Carl Honoré
This past week, I was able to spend a nice stretch of day at Drew’s family’s cabin, and one of my favorite things to do with my one-year-old ended up being agate hunting. It was amazing to me how much my child, who is still so little, enjoyed picking up rocks, closely observing them for a few seconds and throwing them back in the water. He did this repeatedly by my side while I looked for the ones that I deemed most interesting.
It was such a wonderful, meditative activity that got me thinking about how often we pass by life’s small treasures, both physical and metaphorical ones. We are surrounded by them, and yet, we only hold and notice them when we take our time and reflect one how joyous and incredible life can be.
I hope that today and every day, you know all of the treasures that surround and what a gift you are to the world, too.
