The purpose of the Education and Justice committee is to provide opportunities for enrichment and action to build community and promote justice.
Team Responsibilities:
- Creating a culture of generosity
- Organizing Second Collections and Second Connections (began 9/2006)
- Administering the Philanthropy Fund (Board designated annual fund – began 11/2010)
- Coordinating and serving Salvation Army Sunday noon meals four times per year
- Supporting Kiva.org micro-lending program (began 1/2008)
- Encouraging other ways to share time, talent and treasure
- Encouraging intergenerational participation in justice activities
- Encouraging awareness of Fair Trade products, opportunities and events
- Encouraging participation in PRIDE activities
- Keeping awareness of the UUFM being and committing to remain a Green Sanctuary
- Providing kitchen and community space for the local chapter of Food Not Bombs
- Coordinating events to educate and advocate for social and environmental justice issues
- Offering thought-provoking, fun activities
- Providing opportunities that spur curiosity and provide educational offerings for UUFM members and the broader community
- Seeking ways to work with other congregations and community groups
- Facilitating and promoting outreach and participation within the UUFM and with the broader community
