May 24, 2023 Minister’s Message

Dear Ones,

The Soul Matters theme for the month of May is Creativity, and what a great topic to explore as the Fellowship engages transition and transformation.

We never really know the future, not even minutes from now, yet we act as if we do. We have to. We plan, we move, and the future unfolds before us. Sometimes according to plan. Often not. Anxiety is an expected feeling when you know what change is coming. In times such as these, I increase my spiritual practices, working to center myself spiritually and emotionally as the planned future shifts, just out of reach.

In times like these, I remember: “In time and space, I am very small. In time and space, we are all very small. In this time and this space, I matter to those closest to me. In this time and space, we matter most to each other. And we keep breathing” It’s a good reminder that this anxiety, too, shall pass, and we will still want to care for ourselves and each other in loving ways, gathering our spiritual strength so that we might persist in the work of making the world better.

As the Fellowship changes, remember your deepest desires for a world made good. Look for the ways to let that goodness show to others. I pray you heed this call to co-creation—of yourself, of your companions, and of the world—as you remember that you are loved, you are worthy, you are welcome, and you are needed. May you feel it so and may it be so.

Blessings and warm wishes, Rev. Rita
