UUFM Personnel Committee Job Description

Approved 11-13-18; 4-16-19;10-15-19

Purpose: To enhance the worth and dignity of all staff, children and youth, and adults in our congregation by working closely with the minister to build the best staff possible, by following UUA recommendations on Fair Compensation and Salary Recommendations and by developing and maintaining personnel policies.

Ongoing Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain the Employee Handbook and revise as needed; supervisors will provide training on the Handbook.
  • When new staff is to be hired:

1: Personnel committee does the advertising for the position

2: Personnel committee and the minister do the interviews together

  • In cooperation with the minister, implement Employee Handbook procedures for resolving:
  1. Employee complaints
  2. Complaints about employees
  • Ensure background checks for all potential employees, staff and volunteers who work with children, renewing them every three years, with the assistance of the Office Administrator.
  • Review implications of staff changes recommended by minister

Responsibilities by Month:

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER:

  • Maintain employee personnel files; 3 files for each employee: Employment History, Performance Management, and Payroll and Wage/Salary/Benefit Administration
  • Open enrollment for Dental Insurance and the UUA Health Plan

DECEMBER:

  • Review job descriptions after the minister updates them with staff.
  • Review staff assessments provided by the minister.

JANUARY:

  • Review employees’ eligibility for UUFM contribution to UUA retirement plan

FEBRUARY:

  • Keep up-to-date on UUA Fair Compensation Guidelines and Salary Recommendations.
  • Inform the Finance Committee and the Board of Directors of recommended salary/benefit adjustments.

MARCH:

  • Meet with the UUFM Board of Directors
