My Liberation Depends on Your Wholeness

Blurb: The title of this sermon is based on a statement by the Buddhist priest, Rev. Angel Kyodo Williams. She makes the important connection between our individual health and well being and our neighbor’s health, wholeness and well being. This relationship is a foundational block of beloved community. So how do we come to greater spiritual health and wholeness?

This Sunday, Rev. Ruth MacKenzie, Minister Emerita of First Universalist Church of Minneapolis explores curiosity as a practice that grows and nurtures our wholeness and creates an environment where Beloved Community can take root. The practice of curiosity is a means by which we can live beyond our fears and collaborate with liberation, adaptivity, and vision.

Bio: Rev. Ruth MacKenzie is Minister Emerita of First Universalist Church of Minneapolis. She served First Universalist for ten years after a successful career as a playwright, songwriter and performer. Her theatrical creations, Kalevala: Dream of the Salmon Maiden, The Snow Queen, and Theotokos, were produced by the Guthrie Theatre, The O’Shaughnessy Auditorium and The Children’s Theater Company.

Recently retired, Ruth is embarking on a new professional journey of discovery about how the arts and creativity can enliven the life of worship, the life of the spirit, and forge new visions of grace, racial justice, and healing in a broken world.
