For many of us, making and sustaining meaningful and generative relationships is the focus of much of our life energy. Marriages, friendships, mentorships, leaderships, parenthoods all simultaneously nurture us and are nurtured by us in ways that involve negotiating expectations and differences. Some say that in order to remain healthy, relationships are fed and fed by a “third thing”, a common understanding, a covenant, a commitment that holds value and nurturing power like a reservoir even when negotiations break down. This congregation is forming a new relationship with a new minister. What will be the nature of this relationship and how might it be served by “third thing” that you will create together?
