Our 5th Principle calls us to affirm and promote “The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large.” This principle requires that we each cultivate our individual conscience and that we respect the conscientiously made expressions of others. And then we discern, and we vote on what we think is best for our spiritual collective. Today, we open this understanding to our children, as we prepare for our mid-year congregational meeting.
“Democracy means not ‘I am as good as you are,’ but ‘You are as good as I am.”—Rev. Theodore Parker
